UPDATE: Police stand down from Luton medical centre after '˜bomb threat'

Police say there is 'no further cause for concern' after a medical centre in Luton was evacuated following an alleged '˜bomb threat'.

Police were called to Conway Medical Centre on Westbourne Road, Luton, at 2:55pm this afternoon.

Road closures were in place at the Dunstable Road junction and Conway Road at the Dunstable Road and Selbourne Road junctions.

An eyewitness told the Luton News that he’d heard a ‘bomb threat’ had been made at the Bury Park surgery.

He said: “I was doing the school round and I saw loads of police cars down Dunstable Road.

“When I turned into my road the cordon was already there.

“I have to give police credit they are doing a good job.

“There’s no sign of any bomb yet and this has been going on since about 3.15pm.

“Police dogs are here, we’ve got seven or eight police cars.”

He added: “There’s people outside with nowhere to sit, no cars around.”

A Bedfordshire Police spokesman said: “Police were alerted at around 2.55pm regarding a security threat that was made to Conway Medical Centre on Westbourne Road, Luton.

“The premises was evacuated as a precaution while investigations were carried out. No suspicious items were found during a search of the centre and there is no further cause for concern.”
