‘Violent spree of rape and murder’

A cannabis dealer was stabbed to death by a man who had just raped a woman in her kitchen and sexually assaulted another, a jury heard on Monday.

In a ‘spree of extreme violence’ over two and a quarter hours, it is alleged that Jason Nelson, 32, molested a young mother, then raped a grandmother and before murdering 20 year old Jordan Maguire.

Prosecutor Dafydd Enoch QC told Luton crown court the attacks happened on Luton’s Marsh Farm Estate between 6pm and a quarter past eight on 26 May 2013 when a ‘demon’ came over Nelson.

“It can properly be said the defendant went on a spree of extreme violence,” he said.

After buying drink at the local Nisa store , Nelson is said to have met the 60 year old woman and went to her flat, where he drank cans of alcohol and smoked cannabis.

The younger woman arrived at the flat and when he alleged said he fancied her she told him she was with somebody else. When she left at about 6pm he walked down the stairs with her and is said to have held her tight around her waist before putting his hand down the front of her trousers. She told him to: “Get off.”

Mr Enoch told the jury that Nelson walked off towards the shop before returning to the flat where the 60 year old woman was looking after her grandchildren.

The prosecutor said: “He was speaking to her in the kitchen. He said he had access to a lot of money and was boasting. He said he preferred older women and pushed her against the sink.”

It was alleged he kicked away a toy rabbit that was holding the door open before he twisted her round and pushed her body down over the sink.

“One of her grandchildren was screaming. She begged him to leave. He did but, unbelievably, he tried it on again before she managed to persuade him to go, “ said the barrister.”

Nelson had washed himself in the sink before he went. The woman was to tell the police she felt: “Dirty, filthy and disgusted.”

Giving evidence on a video recording, the grandmother said she went to the police to tell them she had been raped by Jason Nelson after speaking to the mother of murdered Jordan Maguire, who she knew as Julie.

She said she did not go to the police at first because she did not think she would be believed.

At around 7.30pm Nelson is said to have met a couple who were looking to buy cannabis. He took them to Jordan Maguire’s home in Thrales Close. The woman stayed outside while Nelson and the man went in.

They agreed on a £20 cannabis deal, which Nelson would share with the couple . Jordan produced a biscuit tin containing bags of cannabis.

Nelson is alleged to have then produced a black handled knife with a 7 to 8 inch blade which he raised above his head. He stabbed Jordan in the right upper chest.

The prosecutor said: “It was a complete shock. There had been no build up. There was no reason. Jordan said: ‘What the f...? Stop it” and Mr Nelson stabbed him again to theleft hand side. Jordan shouted: “ Get out get out.”

As Jordan ran out towards the back door, Nelson stabbed him a third time and allegedly said: “You little pussy.”

Mr Enoch said: “Like the rape, the killing was gratuitous. The defendant had a demon hanging over him.”

The stab wound to the chest had punctured Jordan’s aorta and he was fatally injured. He was found in the street by his mother who was returning home. She dialled 999 but it was too late - nothing could be done.

Nelson placed the knife in his waistband and left. He went to stay with a girlfriend in Ipswich for two weeks before flying from Gatwick to his native Grenada. He moved on to Trinidad, where he was arrested on 16 October 2013.

Nelson , who had lived on the Marsh Farm Estate in Luton pleads not guilty to sex assault, rape and murder.

In his defence case statement he said the rape and sexual assault never happened. He said he admitted killing Jordan with the knife but said he acted in lawful self defence.
