Kids who’d like to be active but aren’t particularly keen on traditional sports like football, basketball or netball now have another option.

Community group Nu FOCUS have received funding for their Rollback Roller Sports project which provides coaching at half term in everything from roller skating to scootering and learning to ride BMX bikes.

The social enterprise has also set up Luton’s only rink roller hockey team called the Griffins.

They’re working alongside the National Roller Hockey Association to organise someone selected by the England coaching director to provide expert tuition for budding young skaters aged between five and 12.

Nu FOCUS have received StreetMark status for the next three years from the charity StreetGames UK, as well as funding from SportEngland.

A recent event at Wigmore skatepark generated considerable interest.

A spokesman said: “We hope eventually to establish an indoor facility where qualified staff teach young people all about skate park etiquette and provide coaching in roller sports.”
