A LEVELS: Luton Sixth Form celebrate even higher results

The pass rate for A Level courses was 97.1%, up 0.2% on last year’s figure. A total of 39.2% of grades awarded were at A*-B, a rise of four percentage points on 2015.

The BTEC Level 3 diploma pass rate was 99.1%, up 1.4% on the 2015 mark.

A trio of students will be heading to Oxbridge after getting the grades they needed to meet their offers. Ameer Abdullah will be moving on to the University of Cambridge to read medicine, Matthew Judson will be going to the University of Oxford to take philosophy, politics and economics, and Calum Cunningham, who achieved five A* grades, will also be heading to Oxford to study material science.

Principal Chris Nicholls said: “We are really pleased results improved across the board this year. Both the A Level pass rate and the proportion of top grades achieved increased here while, nationally, the pass rate stayed the same and high grades fell.

“The performance of the many students who took BTEC qualifications was nothing short of outstanding and, although it will take a little time before we can put the data together on university progression, it is quite clear the vast majority of students have been successful in achieving their ambitions.

“Both myself and our Chair of Governors, Cherry Newbery, would like to thank the staff and students for all their hard work, without which none of this would have been possible. Given the fact that all qualifications, GCSEs, AS Levels, A Levels and BTECs are going though significant changes, it is particularly pleasing that we have improved in all areas.”
