A veritable posse of VIPs attended Mitalee Summer School’s award presentations at Luton’s Maidenhall Junior School.
They included Luton mayor Sheila Roden and Bedfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner Olly Martins as well as the MPs for Luton North and South, Kelvin Hopkins and Gavin Shuker, together with several councillors.
More than 150 young people received awards for completing a diverse range of courses.
Project co-ordinator Mehbub ‘Mugsy’ Koyes said: “What made this year so exciting was there were so many different ideas and projects put forward by the participants themselves – this led to bigger challenges and greater benefits.
“About 260 people attended the ceremony where we presented highlights of this year’s summer school.
“We also gave our many volunteers framed certificates as a small token of our appreciation.”
Mitalee Summer School has been running for the past 15 years and places are highly sought after.
Mugsy is already planning next year’s event which promises to be even more popular.
