Putteridge High School underwent an inspection last year following an incident at the school in which a teacher was hospitalised.

In the letter submitted in October 2016, inspector Emma Page identified “significant contraventions of health and safety law”.

Writing to headteacher David Graham, Ms Page stated: “I require you to take action to ensure that you are managing health and safety more effectively and complying with the law.

“A return visit may be made to ensure the appropriate action has been taken. If you do not take this action, I will consider further enforcement.”

In addition, the school was fined the cost of the HSE investigation – yet to be disclosed.

Headteacher David Graham said: “It is important that our school is a safe environment for both students and staff and we have worked closely with the HSE to ensure we have robust procedures in place. It would be inappropriate to comment on the individual case as proceedings have not yet concluded.”
