Youngsters from Surrey Street Primary School came face to face with a masterpiece on Wednesday as part of Your Paintings: Masterpieces in Schools, a new venture to inspire young people and encourage them to explore the nation’s rich and varied painting.

Under strict security they were treated to a viewing of Frank Auerbach’s Mornington Crescent – Summer Morning II, valued at around £500,000.

The painting normally hangs at Ben Uri, The London Jewish Museum of Art
