A FATHER of two is furious that a supermarket delivered his shopping a day late and out of date.
Ben Franklin, of Farley Hill, ordered his weekly shop from ASDA at the weekend and was expecting delivery on Monday afternoon.
After numerous phone calls from ASDA informing him his shop would arrive at various different times, the delivery finally turned up at 5pm on Tuesday, but most of the food was near or past its best before date.
Mr Franklin said: “The food had obviously been sat in the van for two days. Some things like the chicken and mince meat go off tomorrow, the oranges went out of date yesterday and the spring onions look completely inedible.”
Mr Franklin said that a member of staff from the Hatfield store where the food came from called him on Tuesday morning to say they would replace the food waiting in the van with fresh products, but this didn’t happen.
Lisa Boyle, Mr Franklin’s partner, said: “The man said he would sort it out for us and make sure we had fresh food but he just didn’t bother. How am I supposed to feed my kids with this?”
An ASDA spokesperson said: “We are taking this matter very seriously and will be conducting a full investigation.
“There appears to have been some confusion with rearranging delivery times which caused the delay.
“The Hatfield store does 600-700 deliveries a week and we have very few complaints.
“We have offered Mr Franklin a full refund for his shop.”
