Skatepark fun with RollBack
Skatepark fun with RollBack

A Lewsey Farm teenager who was so shy she got her mum to ask if she could volunteer with RollBack – a programme organised by community group Nu FOCUS – has won a StarBucks project award scheme.

Amy Richardson, 17, came up with the idea of a skatepark competition – and it’s taking place from 11am on Saturday (August 23) at Wigmore skatepark.

She pitched it to a panel of judges, Dragons Den style, and confessed: “I was so nervous, my bones were shaking. But it was all worth it in the end.”

Amy originally encouraged her younger brother and sister to attend RollBack’s roller skating sessions at Lewsey Learning Centre. But she decided they were having so much fun she wanted to go too.

Her mum Mandy said: “It’s a brilliant way for kids to stay active and off the streets while learning something other than the usual football stuff.”

Since she joined, Amy has been on various leadership training courses and is now a senior volunteer/assistant group leader with Rollback, in charge of organising other volunteers, events and activities.
