There aren’t many visually impaired octogenarians who happily hop on a bus to get to their weekly exercise class. But sprightly 87-year-old Audrey Wash (pictured above with instructor Natalie Gabriel) is one of them. And she wouldn’t miss her 50+ aerobics at Hightown Community Arts and Sports Centre for anything.
Audrey – who suffers from macular degeneration which has left her virtually blind – has been attending classes for more than two decades, since she retired at 65.
They are part of Active Luton’s ‘Me Time’ project which encourages more women to sign up for physical activity by offering a variety of women-only sports and fitness programmes in various community settings.
Active Luton boss Helen Barnett said: “Audrey is one of our most remarkable and inspiring ‘Me Time’ women.

“We hope her story will inspire more women to have a go.”
