Donna Dillingham, of Bushmead, will join the group of 12 trekkers on Saturday, April 30, as they take on the challenge over five days.

She was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer and stage 1 cervical cancer when she visited her doctor after she suspected she might have the symptoms of ovarian cancer. After six rounds of chemotherapy and a radical hysterectomy she is ready to take on the challenge to raise awareness of the symptoms and raise money for the charity.

She said: “I was at my lowest ebb with my cancer, going through and severely struggling with high dose chemo. I felt so lost, alone and weak.

“Then I saw the China trek 2016 posted on Target Ovarian Cancer’s website and decided, that is what I was going to do!”

On Sunday, May 8, the last day of the trek, they will have the chance to restore a part of the Great Wall by placing bricks and mending a section of the structure.

Donna said: “The highlight of the trek will definitely be placing a brick in the Great Wall of China for the renovation on World Ovarian Cancer Day.

“It is a privilege to be able to be part of the China trek and raise funds for Target Ovarian Cancer, especially on this special day. It will be an honour to place a brick for all the people with ovarian cancer all over the world.”

Donna has raised £2,000 for Target Ovarian Cancer and hopes to raise more to help improve early diagnosis, fund life-saving research and provide support to women with ovarian cancer.
