Luton burns survivor Shamiam Arif, 13, was all smiles last week when she and her mum Tahira were presented with bus passes by Centrebus.

Operations manager Peter Holmes said: “We’re delighted to be able to help this brave young lady. She’s a real role model and we wish her well.”

He said he and his team would be raising money for the Shamiam Arif Appeal Fund at an upcoming tea and toast event.

Tahira said: “We’re so grateful to Centrebus.

“Shamiam has so many appointments at the Luton&Dunstable Hospital as well as at Great Ormond Street and the bus pass will be a great help.”

Shamiam was badly burned as a baby and came to this country for life-saving treatment. Although she faces years of surgery, her can-do attitude and sunny personality endear her to everyone.
