Acclaimed author visits Luton Sixth Form College
Former student Nasreen says it's 'nostalgic' to be back
Acclaimed author Nasreen Akhtar returned to her roots when she visited Luton Sixth Form College.
A former student at the college, the British-Asian Muslim writer discussed the journey of writing and publishing her first book - Catch A Fish From The Sea (Using The Internet) - with students and staff.
Nasreen, who is one of 10 finalists up for the Book To Talk About award 2009, enjoyed being back on her old stomping ground.
She said: "It is nostalgic to be back. When I attended college here, I never in a million years thought that I would come back to talk about a book I have written."
Ever since the book was released by her own small, independent publishing company, Greenbirds, Lutonian Nasreen, who also illustrated and designed the book's striking cover, has been inundated by readers touched by her story.
The 34-year-old said: "I am delighted both as the author and the publisher of the book that it has started its journey of a thousand miles with such wonderful first steps."
Readers can vote for Nasreen's book on the Spread The Word website.
The winner of the Book To Talk About Award will be announced on World Book Day - Thursday, March 5.
