A budding Luton actress will be hitting the small screen on Wednesday with a starring role in a popular daytime TV soap.

Gurlaine Sidhu, 19, already had a taste of TV stardom earlier this year when she had a small role in hospital drama Holby City. But the youngster takes on an even bigger role in BBC One show Doctors.

The talented thesp plays CJ Jaspal who falls victim to her sister’s jealously over her love life. She told the Luton News: “I really enjoyed filming, it was nice to meet another girl my age and into the same thing as me and the cast were all really welcoming.”

Gurlaine has only been acting since she was 15, but made it through to the final 15 auditionees out of 8,000 for a part in teen drama Skins after just a year.

And she is now well versed with the audition process.

She said: “It’s tough but I’ve been doing it for so long that I’m getting the hang of it. I’m much more comfortable now.”

She now hopes that her Doctors role will catapult her to bigger things.

“I’m open to anything really, you can’t afford to be picky,” she said.

“I’ve watched Eastenders for years and that’s my ultimate dream.”

Doctors airs on BBC One today at 1.45pm.
