Barnfield bundle boxes to Africa

Students send toys and clothes

Students at Barnfield College sent bundles of toys and clothes to needy children in Cameroon in time for Christmas.

The youngsters collected 65 boxes full of gifts to brighten the festive season for children in the remote northern villages of West Africa - Ntumvaw, Ndu and Nsop.

Goodies were collected during December and gift-wrapped at the college's Technology campus.

Mandy Nicholls, a basic skills tutor, said: "A group of us are planning to visit the country later in the new year to work on the local school. It is little more than some mud-brick huts at the moment with very little equipment.

"We want to plaster it, put in some new windows and generally improve it. We also want to take out with us some equipment for the school."

Peter Stamford, a Barnfield construction tutor, has already visited the country, setting up a training workshop for bicycle repairs.

Ms Nicholls said: "We will start fund-raising in the New Year to put together money for our fares and we will also start collecting old school and hospital equipment to take with us."

If you can help with equipment or make a financial donation, email mandy.nicholls@barnfield.ac.uk
