‘Beware of fake Zam Zam water’ warning

editorial image

MUSLIMS are urged to avoid drinking water described or labelled as Zam Zam water, as it could be dangerous.

Tests have shown Zam Zam water sold in the UK or brought into the UK may contain high levels of arsenic or nitrates.

Genuine sacred Zam Zam water comes from a specific source in Saudi Arabia and under Saudi law cannot legally be exported from that country for commercial sale, so any sold in the UK is either of uncertain origin or being sold illegally.

Tests over the past few years have revealed arsenic at almost three times the legal limit in UK Zam Zam water, which could increase risk of cancer.

> If you have bought any, do not drink it and let the council know so it can be removed from sale and no-one is harmed.
