Colin Salmon has insisted in an interview with Luton Today that he isn’t worried about the height difference between him and Strictly Come Dancing partner Kristina Rihanoff.
Speaking during a break in rehearsals with the 5ft 3ins professional dancer, the 6ft 4ins tall actor said: “We’ve been getting a lot of comments but
I said on Twitter that it’s not the size of the dancer, it’s the size of their heart,” he said.
He might be well accustomed to learning lines for everthing from Prime Suspect to the Resident Evil: Retribution, currently showing in cinemas.
But now it’s his feet that have got to do the talking as he gets to grips with the foxtrot, cha-cha and quickstep for the new series of Strictly.
The nation got its first taste of the former Ashcroft High School and Luton Sixth Form College’s student’s fancy footwork last weekend, when he found out he would be paired with the voluptuous Russian.
“Kristina is brilliant – she’s a force of nature,” he said.
The pair have been dubbed ‘Team Colina’, and although he keeps in trim for his day job, Colin said dancing was a whole new challenge.
“It’s great fun but it’s physical and it’s hard work. Just at the point where you think you’re going to give up, you get it. It’s hard on your knees with all the lunging.”
Despite the fatigue he said the training so far had left him “energised”.
“Anyone who’s feeling a bit low, try a dance class.
“And I’ve finally learned how to dance with a girl, rather than at her.”
The actor said he was receiving lots of support from members of Luton’s Next Generation Youth Theatre, of which he is a patron, adding: “We need everyone in Luton to show their support for Team Colina.”
