Bond composer supports NICU appeal

Musical generosity from David Arnold

James Bond composer and former Luton schoolboy David Arnold took time out from recording the new Shirley Bassey CD to provide the music for a fundraising video for the new neo-natal intensive care (NICU) at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital.

The 47-year-old former Challney Boys High School pupil said he hadn't been able to write anything original because of his commitments, but he'd chosen and donated a piece from the 1995 film Last Of The Dogmen.

He said: "I had it in mind because I felt it was emotional, hopeful and ultimately positive - which is what I think the NICU represents."

The multi-award winning composer and producer has personal experience of its importance. His niece spent time in the unit after she was born.

L&D fundraising manager Sarah Newby said: "We were really touched that David donated the tune to us for our NICU Appeal video and felt that the piece he chose sums up the neonatal unit perfectly as it has such an uplifting finish.

"David has helped us on numerous occasions and is one of our valued supporters. With friends like these we know that we will reach our 1.5 million goal for the NICU Appeal."
