Boy asked to get in suspicious man’s van

A man in a white van was seen acting suspiciously in the Putteridge area of Luton on Tuesday (November 6).

The driver of the plain white transit-type van was in Putteridge Road at about 3.20pm when he pulled up next to a 12-year-old boy.

The driver spoke to the boy and asked him to get in the vehicle, but the boy refused to co-operate and the man then drove away towards the Jansel House roundabout.

Det Con Mirian Khajavelidze said: “This appears to be an isolated incident but to ensure this does not happen again we are asking everyone to report any sightings of a similar nature involving a white van in the area to them. Anyone who may know someone matching this description and who has access to this type of vehicle is also asked to contact the police.”

Schools in the area are aware of this incident and taking extra precautions while police are stepping up patrols to reassure students and the public.

The driver of the van is described as a white man, in his mid-30s, with a chubby build and black and grey messy hair. In his right ear he had a yellow coloured ‘hoop’ earing. He wore a sleeveless white tracksuit top and it is believed that the driver possibly had an Essex accent. There was possibly another person in the van.

Anyone who can help identify this man can contact DC Khajavelidze, in confidence, on 01582 473322 Bedfordshire Police on 101, or text information to 07786 200011.

Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
