Cleaning up in a new career
TURNING a hobby into a job is something many people dream of, and for one young entrepreneur in Luton, the dream is turning into reality.
Uche-chi Zabdi-el from Liverpool Road, was unemployed and despairing of finding work when his job seeker advisor asked him about his hobbies.
The 26-year-old has been making soap since he was seven years old and the advisor suggested he try and turn his talent into a business.
Uche-chi said: “I thought it sounded like a good idea, so I did some research then started selling. I go door-to-door and to local stores trying to get them to stock my products.
“I’ve been operating for about six months now and sales are going well.”
The business-minded youngster said starting his company, Black Star Soap Co., shows with an idea, self-belief and a hard work ethic anyone can achieve something positive.
He said: “Everyone has skills but you might take them for granted and it sometimes takes someone else to see your potential. I had been making soaps as a hobby, now it’s a business. I was unemployed for eight months but now things are going really well for me.”
The Black Star Co. soaps are star-shaped, black but transparent and each bar is rich in vitamin E, anti-wrinkle properties, natural oils and are suitable for all skin types.
