Controversial housing plans approved
A HEATED committee meeting saw three controversial planning applications passed in a move some councillors worried would turn Luton into a “concrete jungle” last night.
The applications made to the development control committee were for 54 properties in Butely Road, 43 dwellings in Bradley Road and 110 properties in Roebuck Road, which are all part of phase 2 of the New Homes for Luton programme.
Proposals for the three sites were accepted despite the contributions from developers reduced to £492,195 rather than the ideal £1,597,011, and in the face of fierce objection from local residents.
Councillor Gilbert Campbell left the meeting after the first application was approved, and members of the public heckled and jeered throughout, with some describing the meeting as a shambles.
