Council could be left counting the cost of Love Luton Festival
TOWN Hall chiefs could be left counting the cost of this weekend’s Love Luton Festival as it was reported that a shortfall of £290,000 could be incurred.
Luton Borough Council has said that no authority services will be affected by the loss and that it will be covered by a special ‘insurance fund’.
The authority already had to slash ticket prices in half last month after poor sales, and council chiefs have said that the reduced cost has seen a fresh surge in interest for the concerts which feature boyband The Wanted and X Factor star Olly Murs.
But Lutontoday understands that just over 1,400 tickets have been snapped up for Friday’s The Wanted gig with a little over 2,200 people splashing out on tickets for to see Olly Murs.
A full report into the cost of the festival will be produced after the weekend’s events.
Current costs are reportedly around £1.09m with an anticipated income and normal council contribution for the event being £800,000.
But that leaves a further deficit of £290,000.
