Couple in court over £15,000 benefit fraud

editorial image

A JUDGE told a couple that they had brought shame on themselves and their family after they were sentenced for benefit fraud.

Amreen Rasab, 33, and her husband Asif Mahmood, 39, of Chester Avenue, Luton, were given suspended prison sentences at Luton Crown Court on January 19.

Rasab was claiming housing and council benefit together with income support as a single person but failed to tell the benefit authorities that her husband was living with her.

Mahmood was fully aware of his wife’s actions and he was subsequently charged with dishonestly causing or allowing another to furnish false and misleading information. They fraudulently claimed a total of £15,814.
