Crowdfunder in memory of Luton Town fan

Brett Webb, 21, died suddenly on Sunday. He was a massive Luton Town fan who according to friends had “been following Luton forever”.

A Crowdfunding petition started yesterday raised over £1,500 within hours. Organiser Darren Kenneford said: “I think it just goes to show you how well loved Brett was by everyone. Some people just leave a good mark on you don’t they? Brett was one of those faces that you saw at every game. He would always come up and make an effort to say hello, ask how you were, constantly grinning!

“I know it’s a cliche but [the petition] brings people together.”

And Darren was thrilled to get a message from LTFC CEO Gary Sweet who was supportive of the venture.

He said: “I emailed him to ask and he said the club are more than happy to accommodate it and a tribute too.

“We also plan to clap for a minute in the 21st minute of games ongoing, beginning at Plymouth on the opening day.”

A spokesman for Luton Town Football Club said everyone was shocked to learn of Brett’s death.

Town chief executive Gary Sweet said: “The whole Luton Town family would like to pay its respects to a loyal supporter who has lost his life at such a tragically young age.

“Brett and his family are well-known to myself and the club, they are Luton Town through and through.

“We wholeheartedly support the fundraising efforts to produce a flag of remembrance in Brett’s honour and will find room to give it due prominence at Kenilworth Road, where he spent so much time supporting the Hatters.

“All our thoughts are with Brett’s family and we send our condolences to all who knew and loved him.”

Brett’s group of friends also plan to raise a glass in his memory at the next Blackpool away game on December 17.

Darren added: “A big turnout and a good day we hope so that everyone can remember him and his love for LTFC.

“He deserves to be remembered in the right way.”
