Tory two buoyant after party conference
Luton's two Tory General Election candidates say they have returned from the party's spring conference in Brighton ready to fight for change.
Jeremy Brier, Conservative candidate for Luton North, and Nigel Huddleston, candidate for Luton South, both spent the weekend in Brighton, where they listened to party leader David Cameron set out his vision for the country should he become prime minister at the next General Election.
Mr Huddleston said: "I left Brighton under no illusion about the scale of the task before us, but also with great confidence in David Cameron's conviction for fulfilling his positive vision for Britain.
"I must now play my part in ensuring that we win a majority, get Gordon Brown out and David Cameron in - for the good of Luton and for the good of the country as a whole."
The Luton South candidate spent time with Ken Clarke, with whom he spoke about the financial situation at GM, and also spoke to representatives from the National Federation of Retail Newsagents, who have been trying to secure better protection for Luton newsagents following the death of Jashbhai Patel last year.
Mr Brier said the conference proved Mr Cameron had the qualities necessary to lead the country.
He said: "I was sitting just behind David Cameron on the stage for his speech and I could really see the passion and the drive in his body language.
"He knows, as we do in Luton, that this is going to be a tough fight against Gordon Brown and Labour – but we must win it to rescue our economy."
