Demolition begins on Luton Library car park

Work has started on the demolition of the landmark Luton Library car park.

The 700-bay multi-storey structure has stood empty and derelict for the past four years, after a routine inspection revealed concerns about its safety.

It was said to be “beyond economic repair.”

It is owned by The Mall who are responsible for its maintenance.

A council spokeswoman said the work should be completed by the end of the month.

The Mall and the council are looking at a more comprehensive development for the area, including development of the car park site.
