Fatal car crash in Slip End

A WOMAN died and another is fighting for her life after a car accident involving two vehicles in Slip End on Saturday (January 21).

The women, who are believed to be sisters from Dunstable, were involved in a collision with a second car in Newlands Road at 2.07pm.

The driver of a blue Renault Clio, a 26-year-old woman was taken to Addenbrookes Hospital for treatment to serious internal injuries and her 31-year-old passenger died at the scene.

East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) spokesman Gary Sanderson, who attended the scene, said: “First and foremost our thoughts are with the girls’ family at this tragic time.”

One of the cars involved is believed to have gone into a tree, and the casualties had to be released from the cars by the Luton and Bedfordshire Fire Service using cutting equipment.

The driver of the blue Audi A4, a 49 year old woman, was taken to the Luton and Dunstable Hospital for treatment to suspected internal bruising.

PC Martin Longley, of the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Collision Investigation Unit, is keen to speak to any members of the public who may have witnessed the collision but have not spoken with the police.
