Firework causes car blaze

Warning after 'prank' causes 999 call

Firefighters had to extinguish a car fire in Luton after a firework was thrown through the rear window.

The incident, on Guernsey Close, happened at about 10.50pm on Thursday.

Just two days previously a woman had to be taken to hospital suffering from shock and smoke inhalation after a lit firework was thrown through the window of her Jersey Road flat.

Chief fire officer Paul Fuller gave a timely warning on the dangers of fireworks: "Every year people are injured in accidents caused by fireworks and damage is caused to property – not to mention the distress caused to people and pets by people misusing fireworks.

"If you want to see something really worthwhile go to a properly organised fireworks display."
