Four people, including a child, managed to escape from a flat fire in Hockwell Ring today.

Bedfordshire fire and Rescue Service extinguished the flat fire in Green Court, Hockwell Ring, Luton.

Fire Control received the first of several calls about the fire in a second floor flat at 2.15 and sent Fire Crews from Luton and Dunstable Community Fire Stations to the scene. When the first Firefighters arrived they found a fire alight in a second floor flat. The Luton Aerial Platform was sent for and the Incident Command Centre also deployed.

Three adults and a child were in the flat at the time and self-evacuated, they all suffered from the effects of smoke inhalation but are otherwise unharmed.

By 3pm the fire was out and clear up operations were underway including clearing smoke from the building using positive pressure ventilation. The flats on either side and above the one affected are currently being checked for the effects of smoke.
