A member of the public found the body in Oakley Road on Monday, July 11 and immediately called the animal charity.

RSPCA inspector Lauren Bailey, who is investigating, said: “This is a very strange incident and we are keen to find out what happened to the fox, as he had been deliberately wrapped in a grey jumper and was covered in oil, so somebody must know why the fox had been left dumped as he had.

“There was no blood, open wounds or marks on the fox’s body, so it is hard to say how he died. Due to the strange circumstances in which he was found, we do think it is important to find out how he ended up in this way and whether deliberate animal cruelty is involved.”

Anyone with information should contact the RSPCA in confidence on 0300 123 8018.
