‘Friendly and loving’ dog cruelly abandoned in pain
Russel was cruelly abandoned with a broken leg
A dog is facing amputation of his leg after being abandoned in some bushes in Butterfield Green, with injuries consistent with being hit by a car.
The young lurcher-type dog, whom the RSPCA have named Russel, was discovered tied up with a thick rope in a slip knot, surrounded by cans and broken glass.
He was found by a member of the public on February 5 and a subsequent examination revealed his front leg was broken at the top where it joins the shoulder
RSPCA inspector Tina Ward said: “This poor animal must have been in a huge amount of pain as a result of his broken leg and instead of rushing him to a vet it appears someone has simply chosen to abandon him and walk away.
“I would ask anyone who recognises this dog or has information to contact us so we can ensure no other animals are allowed to suffer.”
Russel was thin when he was found, and his injuries are thought to have happened at least 24 hours before, as scabs had formed on the wounds.
The dog is being cared for at the RSPCA Block Fen Animal Centre in Cambridgeshire, where staff describe him as a friendly loving dog.
It will be another six weeks before the vet can be sure if the bone in Russel’s leg has healed – if not it could be amputated.
