Residents in Hockwell Ring are currently without gas following a gas leak this morning.
The council was alerted to the fracture of a main internal gas supply pipe at Home Court, a high-rise block, shortly after 1am.
The National Grid promptly made the site safe by isolating the gas supply and no evacuation of residents has been necessary.
The National Grid has delivered an electric fan heater and electric cooking hob to each of the 42 flats (around half the block) which are without gas, and council officers are on-site.
Cold running water and electrical supplies remain available.
The council’s housing tenant services team is currently calling at each affected address to identify any vulnerable residents, assess any needs and make sure appropriate support is provided.
If you are aware of any Home Court resident requiring support, or have any concerns, please call 01582 547304.
Additionally, four BTS engineers are currently jointly working with the National Grid to cap off all individual gas supply meters in each flat to enable the National Grid to assess the extent of the damage and the scope of the repair.
The majority of the affected residents are council tenants.
Residents with any questions about their gas supply should call 0800 111999 (for deaf and hard-of-hearing customers Minicom 0800 371787).
