Growing Together at Luton school's gardening event
Project involves parents and pupils
Greenfingered families at Luton's Whipperley Infant School got their hands dirty at a Growing Together event.
Groundwork Luton and South Beds, the environmental regeneration charity, teamed up with the Whipperley Ring school to encourage pupils and their families to grow and cook their own fruit and vegetables and eat a healthier diet.
More than 140 children and parents attended and planted vegetable seeds to take home, tasted different fruits, took part in a nature trail around the school grounds, made homes for wildlife and made eco-friendly crafts.
After the success of the day, Groundwork Luton and South Beds will be running a weekly family learning growing club at the school.
Groundwork Luton and South Beds Vicky Duxbury, said: "Groundwork is delighted to be working with Whipperley Infants School as part of our Grow it, Cook it, Eat it programme.
"This a great project as it will not only show pupils and their families how to grow their own fruit and vegetables at home but will also give them the opportunity to take part in a weekly club to learn about growing and cooking in more depth."
Headteacher Linda Griffiths said that she was delighted at the community's interest in and response to the event.
