Hospice chef gets the Novelli treatment

Top chef hands over big cheque

A hospice chef took tips from one of the best when he was given a one-to-one lesson at Jean Christophe Novelli's cookery academy on Monday.

Chris Took, chef at the Hospice of St Francis in Berkhamsted, was invited to the academy at Tea Green after the flamboyant Frenchman visited the hospice last month and was touched by the care and professionalism of staff and volunteers.

Mr Took, 43, is the first ever hospice chef in the UK to be honoured with a prestigious NHS award for Dignity in Care, presented by Sir Michael Parkinson. He has also been invited to speak about his work with patients at the hospice to an audience at the Royal College of Nursing in London.

During the visit Mr Novelli presented Mr Took with a cheque for 1,000 for the hospice.
