A Luton lad could soon be seeing his name in lights after a performance on the X Factor which impressed judges and thrilled the audience on Sunday.

Former Putteridge High School student Jaymi Hensley is one third of new boyband Triple J, who are now through to the ‘bootcamp’ round of the ITV talent show thanks to their fantastic debut performance.

Alongside bandmates Josh and JJ, Jaymi got four yes’s from judges Gary Barlow, Tulisa Contostavlos, Rita Ora and Louis Walsh.

Take That superstar Gary Barlow OBE said to the boys: “With a good boyband it’s not just about looking good, you’ve got to sound great too, and you really do sound great.”

The band were accompanied to the audition in London’s O2 arena by their families who waited backstage with presenter Dermot O’Leary, and the boys told the judges their mums were more nervous than they were.

Triple J, who are managed by ex-lead singer of East 17, Blair Dreelan, sang their own version of ‘We Found Love’, a number one single by Rihanna.

Pop star Tulisa said: “This is what a boyband is about”, and guest judge Rita Ora, also a singer, said: “I think girls will love you.”

It’s not the first time Jaymi has taken to the X Factor stage, as last year he also got through to the bootcamp stages with his former boyband Brooklyn.

Triple J are being hailed as the new One Direction and already have 61,716 followers on their Twitter page @Triplejofficial

> Colin Salmon, who went from Luton lad to Hollywood hottie, shimmied his way onto the nation’s television screens again at the weekend.

The Bond and Prime Suspect actor, who attended Luton Sixth Form College, is taking part in the new series of Strictly Come Dancing, and said that while he knows he has rhythm, he isn’t sure if that includes being able to dance.

The 6ft 4ins tall screen star towered over his dance partner, 5ft 3ins tall Kristina Rihanoff, who last year made it to the final with Jason Donovan.

After the show he tweeted: “Kristina is a dream partner. Looking forward to learning from a master.”

Strictly returns on October 5.
