Jobs: Not just any role, an M&S Christmas role

Retailer Marks & Spencer is creating 20,000 seasonal jobs in the UK and Ireland this year – 5,000 more than last Christmas.

In the south east region of England alone, the knickers-to-biscuits retailer aims to recruit 1,160 extra employees.

Based in more than 500 stores, the roles include customer assistants, café assistants and store operation.

Steve Rowe, director of retail at M&S, said: “We want to make sure that our customer needs are met so we’re putting the call out for 20,000 passionate, service-centred recruits to come join the team and help make it a merry Christmas for millions of M&S shoppers.”

Last year more than one-in-five of the 15,000 recruits were made permanent employees after finishing their seasonal contracts.

Applicants should be prepared to work evenings, weekends as well as Bank Holidays over the Christmas and New Year period.
