East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) has said that 15 passengers were taken to Luton & Dunstable Hospital, five of whom suffered serious injuries.

Miss Clasing told the Luton News that the crash occurred as a result of the bus ahead stopping suddenly, and the following bus driver not noticing soon enough to prevent the bus, travelling “between 40 and 50” miles per hour, from impacting.

She said: “Everyone on the bus was forced forward due to impact.

“From what I know a lady broke her wrist, a girl smashed her head and jaw on a pole, one woman was literally thrown from her chair, and the chair uprooted from its bolts.

“A few people had whiplash and me and my boyfriend smashed our knees up.

“My boyfriend has not long had surgery on his knees so the impact has caused swelling and he is struggling to walk properly at the moment, but was told there was no operation needed and no damage done internally.

“My knee is in pain and I will find out later on if I have a crack in it or not.”

Following the incident EEAST dispatched six ambulance crews to the scene, while Bedfordshire Fire Service also sent three fire engines and a rescue unit.

Luton Borough Council says it will not comment on the incident until a Beds Police investigation concludes.

Grant Palmer has said that it wishes those injured in the collision a “speedy recovery”.
