Luton gets set for Race for Life

Thousands ready to take part

Luton's ninth Race for Life takes place in Stockwood Park on Sunday, July 5.

More than 2,700 women will be there, proud to be part of the country's largest women-only fundraising event in aid of Cancer Research UK.

They'll be coming together to do something amazing to help fund a cure for the disease that affects one in three of us.

Reporter Bev Creagh - who's taken part every year since her husband died five years ago - said: "Being part of such a huge sisterhood is both humbling and uplifting. There's a real sense of family and of belonging. Everyone talks to everyone else, everyone understands when tears start to flow.

"Some women walk, some jog and some run. They're there with their mothers, daughters, grans, sisters and friends. They're all shapes, sizes and colours and they're all determined to make a difference.

"The good news is there are an increasing number celebrating their own survival or that of someone close - recognition that all the money raised over the years is finally having effect."
