Luton plane diverted to Gatwick

Captain changes landing spot after engine problems on jet

A plane due to land at Luton Airport had to be diverted on Friday afternoon, after an engine problem was detected.

Monarch flight ZB895 left Tenerife airport at 12.32pm local Spanish time, heading for Luton.

But as preparations were made for landing, an engine problem in the airbus A321 jet was found and the pilot decided to redirect to Gatwick where the runway is longer.

The aircraft landed safely at Gatwick airport at 16:01 local time, and the 162 passengers onboard disembarked as normal.

Coach transport was provided to take them to Luton airport.
