New movement encourages environment awareness
Grow your own greens and pick up potato planting pointers at Transition Luton's first event of 2010.
Learn the basics of cultivating fruit and vegetables – with a little help from the experts – at Grow Your Own 1.0 on Wednesday, February 10.
Gill Gauntlett, presenter of BBC Three Counties The Greenhouse programme, will host the evening of questions and discussion, with a panel that includes local gardeners and horticulturists.
The aim is to inspire beginners to get started in growing their own fruit and veg.
Panel members will share their experiences and enthusiasm and answer questions from local people. It is open to all members of the public – complete beginners and experienced gardeners alike.
Grow Your Own 1.0 is the first in a series of events run by Transition Luton to get the town growing, including community food projects and shared garden schemes.
The Transition Luton movement aims to raise awareness of climate change and the finite supply of oil among the public, connect with community groups and build bridges to local government.
Transition Towns strengthen local communities and help them deal with the challenges of climate change.
The Grow Your Own 1.0 event, which includes a quiz, will be held at 7.30pm in the Luton Friends Meeting House, Crawley Green Road, close to the junction with Crescent Road.
