Message of hope as Luton remembers

editorial image

Every year, a different theme is announced for Holocaust Memorial Day. Held at the Town Hall, this year’s national theme was ‘Building Bridges’.

Prior to the event some key members within the Jewish community started community engagement through the Council of Faiths through the Near Neighbours’ project.

Many groups across communities were invited on the day to have a display in the Town Hall to explain the challenges they have faced and how they overcame those to better integrate in the wider community.

A diverse range of people came on the day to remember not just the Holocaust but so many other atrocities in human history. Following exchanges, meetings and greetings, people moved to the Council Chamber for the ceremony. Kelvin Hopkins MP addressed the gathering with a message of hope and 11 candles wewere lit in memory of the 11 million victims of the Holocaust.
