New Lea-se of life for river?

The River Lea in April 2012

A new government-funded project is underway to help Luton “get the best out of the River Lea”.

Cranfield University is working with Luton Borough Council and the Environment Agency to improve the river and its tributaries in Luton.

In the past the river was the centre of town life, said the university, but is now “degraded, hidden from view, and in need of some care and attention”.

Professor Sue White said: “There is so much untapped potential there – a restored river could bring more visitors to the area, benefit businesses, and give locals excellent walking and play areas.”
