New bereavement suite opens at L&D

'A benchmark for other NHS Trusts'

The new bereavement suite at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital was will be a benchmark for other NHS Trusts, according to chaplain Elizabeth Bradley, the driving force behind the 100,000 project.

It was opened by the national director of the Department of Health's End of Life Care Strategy, Claire Henry, on Friday. She and other VIP guests were delighted by what had been achieved.

The transformation from gloomy rooms to sunny surroundings was part of the 1 million Enhancing the Healing Environment programme funded by the Department of Health and led by The King's Fund, a health improvement charity.

L&D chief executive Stephen Ramsden said: "We wanted to make the emotionally painful time of bereavement as dignified and supported an experience as possible and the new bereavement suite is something we can all be proud of."
