Notorious heist’s secrets revealed

Andrew Cook

It’s full steam ahead for a Luton school principal after his tell-all book of Britain’s most infamous crime caught the eye of a major film company.

Andrew Cook’s latest book – The Great Train Robbery: The Untold Story from the Closed Investigation Files – is heading for the big screen 50 years on from the heist, which took place near Leighton Buzzard.

But his involvement won’t stop there, as the King’s House School principal begins work as a consultant within the production.

He said: “It was a massive surprise but I am delighted.”

Mr Cook’s tenth book, which was released just before Christmas, reveals previously undisclosed details of the robbery from exclusive access to over 1,000 pages of police and Royal Mail files.

He said: “It looks like the first half of the film will be in the eyes of the robbers, but the second will be the police perspective so it will be very difficult for critics to argue it is on the side of the criminals.”

Filming is due to begin this year, said Mr Cook.
