Olympic Torch route through Luton revealed

THE ROUTE the Olympic Torch will be taking through Luton was announced today (Monday March 19).

The torch arrives in the town on the evening of Sunday July 8, going from London Road to Old Bedford Road before night time celebrations.

It will then travel through St George’s Square on Monday July 9, then through Manchester Street, George Street, Park Street, Castle Street, Chapel Viaduct and onto Dunstable Road to make its way to Dunstable.

The torchbearers for the Luton part of the journey are Roger Crossley, 53 from Bampton, Stu King, 29 from Luton and Tom Bennett, 54, from Oxford, Emma Marks, 15 from Leighton Buzzard, Gemma Collis, 19 from Aylesbury, Helen Mcfarlane, 42, from Luton, Hollie Baxter, 17, from Luton, Jacqueline Dowsing, 46, from Dunstable, Katrina Blunt, 33, from Pitstone, Kevin Lawlor, 54, from Hitchin, Kieran Jays, 12, from Houghton Regis, Kyle Mandry, 48, from Menomonee Falls, Matt Roche, 15, from Leighton Buzzard, Barry Funnell, 49, from Clapham, Rich Walsh, 22, from Berkhamsted, Babatunde Ajisola, 32, from Luton, David Cole, 71, from Luton, Justin Joseph-Beeston, 40 from Luton, Marcus Burnett, 13, from Bedford, Simon Stothard, 29 from Dunstable, Ben Jell, 33, from Dunstable, Bruce Benedickter, 45, from Leighton Buzzard and Charlotte Ellis, 18 from Bedfordshire.

A total of 8,000 torchbearers will take the torch on its 70-day journey which begins in Land’s End on 19 May.
