Overweight dog dieting in happy new home

A pooch who had piled on the pounds has found a new home with a family who are determined to get her fit.

Tilly, a ten-year-old Border Collie/German Shepherd cross, was double her ideal bodyweight when she arrived at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, and struggled to stay mobile.

Staff put her on a diet, and when Bryan and Julie Davies from Luton saw her on the Battersea website they decided to adopt her.

Bryan said: “We have room and felt we could give a loving home to another older dog. We have a large 100ft long garden at home that Tilly will be able to frolic in till her heart’s content and the back door is always open for the dogs to come in and out as they please.”

The Davies already have a nine-month-old Border Collie called Rhea and a four-year-old Border Collie/Spaniel called Kelsea, who both enjoy the canine sport flyball and agility, a doggy obstacle course.

They hope the younger dogs will inspire Tilly to get fit again.

Bryan said: “We’re sure that with the help of Rhea and Kelsea, we can get Tilly to a much healthier weight, and bring out the lively girl that we all know she can be.

“We have agility equipment in the garden so Tilly might decide to tackle a few of the lower jumps. She is such a friendly and loving girl, so we’re really pleased she’s joining our family.”
