Luton’s £26 million Inspire pool was given its official opening by HRH the Duke of Kent and Paralympic champion Jonnie Peacock on Friday.

Before unveiling the plaque to mark the opening, the Duke said: “This is the most amazing centre I have ever been to.”

Jonnie Peacock, the current T44 100m Paralympic champion and world record holder, held a question and answer session with pupils from Stopsley and Bushmead primary schools, and allowed the youngsters to pass around his gold medal.

He said: “I don’t doubt there will be lots of new sports stars of the future coming from Luton now they have facilities like the swimming pool.”
