Flying the flag for England's patron saint in Luton

Luton's St George's Square was the focus of patriotic fervour on Saturday with a host of events to mark the feast day of England's patron saint.

St George's Day doesn't fall until Wednesday, April 23, but the weekend celebrations included a a traditional mumming play, a town crier and a minstrel.

English folk dancing, a Punch and Judy show, tales from professional story-tellers, a medieval re-enactment, crafts for sale, maypole dancing, magic tricks, rides and face painting were also included in the fun.

About 1,000 scouts took part in the day, lining the half mile stretch from Market Square to St George's Square, and putting on activities such as abseiling, cooking competitions, bridge building, putting up tents and knot tying.
