Plea as bike shop petition is handed over

SO GRATEFUL: Dave Barford has been overwhelmed by the support he has received

EMBATTLED bike shop owner Dave Barford took his fight to the Town Hall yesterday, handing in a petition of nearly 650 signatures.

Luton Borough Council wants the My Bike Shop owner to move from his Birdsfoot Lane premises so a bigger business that will pay more rent – most likely a betting shop – can move in.

Mr Barford said: “I hope the council will look at the situation and treat me in a fair and just manner, the way any commercial council tenant should be treated.”

The Luton News is campaigning for the council to re-think the rent rises it is imposing on businesses and community groups. Sign our petition at www.lutontoday.co.uk/dpuopetition
