Poles gear up for a trip to the Galaxy
Specialist movie season set for Luton cinema
Cinema bosses in Luton are placing themselves Poles apart from rival venues with their latest film programme.
The Galaxy Centre's Cineworld is set to start a new schedule of movies from Poland in a bid to cater for the town's ever-growing eastern European population.
Testosteron (2007), billed as a Polish American Pie, will kick-off the season with a view to bringing more cinema hits from the country.
General manager Daisy Sapunova said requests from customers and presenter Jonathan Ross inspired her to put the programme in place.
"I watched Jonathan Ross on Film 2008 and he said Polish communities are well established in the UK and cinemas were starting to accommodate them," she said.
"I thought it would be a good idea because there are so many Polish people in town."
The first film will be screened on Sunday, March 2 and Monday, March 3, and Daisy is hoping Brits will also come along and not be deterred by the subtitles.
With estimates putting the town's Polish population at as many as 10,000 it's easy to see why businesses of all descriptions are starting to cater for the recent arrivals.
"I think it's a good idea expanding not just for Polish people but for English - the Hollywood movies and big blockbusters are not always the best films to watch," Daisy added.
